Day 19 - A "rest Day" in Leon

We finally managed to sleep a little longer.  Had a liesurely tea at the hostel waiting for the cafes to open. Had an enormous honey custard pastry to go with our coffee.  We'll work that off later.  Then off to the cathedral, which was very impressive but very different from Burgos.  This is the one with 125 stained glass windows, absolutely magnificent.  Then we went looking for the Romanesque Royal Basilica of St. Isodoro. We skipped the museum of manuscripts.   We did finally locate a Farmacia that catered to our needs and then went to test drive the bank machines. Ada was concerned that after two rejects the machine would swallow her card.  Luckily not.  We  continued wandering the city in search of supplies, looking for food and drink for the next day.  We really loved the Gaudi building with the 4 turrets and the statue of Gaudi sketching his masterpiece.

We found two different types of Roman walls and found a grocery store outside of the medieval walls as we were unwilling to pay 8 euros for a bottle wine in the city centre.

We had lunch with our feet up at the Leon Hostel while waiting for the museum to re-open.  The cathedral museum was impressive, but we could not locate the chalice from the "Last Supper".  At the end of our tour we were shocked to find that they lock the visitors inside.  Pat waved frantically at the video camera where a voice told us 'un momento' and then a guide arrived to let us out and escort us to the next building. We got out of that one by ourselves.

We were so thirsty from all our touring we decided to visit the Four Lions Craft Brewery and taste their wares.

While there, we watched the tail end of a Doris Day, Rock Hudson movie, followed by a 1922 restored German silent movie "Dracula".

We returned to the Boston Restaurant for a repeat dinner as we are not sure that we would be getting vegetables again on our trip.  We returned to the Hostel to pack up for the early start in the morning because we didn't want to crash around and wake our new room mate.

  1. Glad to hear that Ada got an ankle brace and Pat got some glut pain meds! Looks like it continues to be the adventure of a lifetime. Shona and I have decided to repeat the tradition when we both retire....which leaves us about 15-20 yrs to train! Lol!!

  2. Just getting caught up with your blog. Sounds like you are having a great time, despite the aches and pains. I am in Azofra right now, stomach grumbling, and ready to look for dinner. My two walking mates from Maine are not hungry, soI am on my own. Enjoy the walk!
